Boxes and Enclosures for Books workshop at the John C Campbell Folk School
Andrew will be teaching structures to protect and present books at the John C Campbell Folk School
BOXES AND ENCLOSURES FOR BOOKS
Date: Sunday, Sep 11 - Saturday, Sep 17, 2022The best protection for a treasured book or family bible is a well-made box. Learn the skills you need to make a variety of book enclosures, from a simple tuxedo wrapper to a cloth-covered clamshell box. These structures are used in libraries and archives to protect and preserve rare books and other materials. Now you can preserve your items, too! All levels welcome.
Storage Book Workshop with Partners in Print
Andrew will be teaching the Storage Book Format and lead a collaborative book project with Partners in Print.
In this two-part workshop you’ll connect with other printers near and far — not just virtually, but across the pages of a physical book! Whether you’re an experienced book artist searching for your next collaboration, or you don’t know your recto from your verso (yet), Andrew Huot of Big River Bindery in Atlanta, Georgia has plenty of bookbinding-related wisdom to share. After an inspiring introduction to book structures that showcase many people’s prints, you’ll be eager to roll up your sleeves and print the pages of a collaborative edition that you’ll then bind together over Zoom.
Saturday, May 7, 2022 – 10:00 am – Saturday, June 11, 2022 – 12:00 pm

Book Restoration Clinic Workshop at John C Campbell Folk School
Andrew will be teaching a workshop on the repair of books at the John C Campbell Folk School.
BOOK RESTORATION CLINIC
Date: Sunday, Mar 13 - Saturday, Mar 19, 2022Return your worn books to their original function and use. Any binding of leather, vellum, cloth, or paper can be repaired using archival and long-lasting materials. Techniques are taught as a series of simple steps used in libraries and archives across the country. Expect to treat two to three books during the week. If you have never done binding, this class is an excellent introduction; if you're experienced, you will learn some of the latest conservation methods.
